The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) is the community of vascular ultrasound healthcare professionals dedicated to high quality care and improving patient outcomes through education, advocacy, research and growth of the field. Beginning January 1, 2024, we said goodbye and thank you to six members of the SVU Board of Directors, as well as welcome our new members to the Board of Directors.
“Thank you to Karen Burns, Kelly Byrnes, Jessica Kralec, Jennifer Martin, Jill Sommerset, Kayla Wieseckel and the late Dr. Joseph Polak, for their time and commitment to the SVU Board of Directors,” said Joshua Lee, SVU President. “We appreciate the input and guidance they provided to the Board of Directors as we worked to advance the vascular ultrasound profession.”
“I would also like to thank Anita Harrington for her dedication to the SVU as President for the last two years,” said Joshua. “Under her leadership, the SVU Board of Directors accomplished a great deal, including the development of an ambitious strategic plan that provides direction to the organization going forward. I look forward to stepping into the role of President to continue the good work that Anita has already started.”
As we enter 2024, we welcome the following new Board of Directors:
Patrick Washko will serve a three-year term (2024-2026) as Treasurer. Patrick resides in Raleigh, NC. He served on the Board of Directors of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound from 2012 to 2017. He is also a fellow of the SVU and served as a past Treasurer and President of the North Carolina Vascular Technologists (NCVT) and Vice President of the North Carolina Ultrasound Society (NCUS). Meredith Bordelon will serve a three-year term (2024-2026) as a Technologist Director. Meredith resides in Tennessee. She previously worked as a staff vascular sonographer at Vanderbilt Medical Center and was responsible for performing and reporting on highly complex vascular studies while also mentoring sonography students and staff on vascular pathology and machine capabilities. Currently, Meredith works for LimFlow, as the Senior Vascular Ultrasound Specialist and travels around the country visiting hospitals and private clinics, teaching sonographers how to evaluate deep venous arterialization studies.
Meagan Shaw will serve a three-year term (2024-2026) as a Technologist Director. Megan resides in California and works as a Radiology Supervisor for a Vascular Lab and Lead Vascular Sonographer.
Traci Fox will serve a three-year term (2024-2026) as a Technologist Director. Traci resides in Delaware and works as a Program Director at Thomas Jefferson University for all the sonography programs. She has also served on the SVU board as an At-Large Director from
2022-2023.
Gabrial Folmar will serve a one-year term as an At Large Director. Gabrial resides in Pennsylvania serving as a staff Sonographer performing noninvasive cerebral, peripheral, and abdominal arterial and venous exams in a variety of clinical settings.
Robert Moody, Jr., PhD, will serve a one-year term as an At Large Director. Robert resides in Florida and works an Assistant Professor of Cardiovascular Sonography teaching at Nova Southern University. He is dedicated vascular sonographer since 2004 and have worked into two IAC accredited vascular labs during my career.
Laurence Needleman, MD will serve a three-year term as Physician Director. Dr. Needleman is a diagnostic radiology specialist in Philadelphia. He graduated from New York Medical College in 1977 and is affiliated with medical facilities Jefferson Methodist Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Currently, Dr. Needleman is the Medical Director for Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory at Thomas Jefferson University.
Colton Taylor will be serving a one-year term as the SVU Student Director. He currently attends Oregon Institute of Technology.
“We are thrilled to have these individuals join us on the SVU Board of Directors,” said Joshua. “I have no doubt that they will bring great energy and new ideas to our organization as we move into 2024.”
